I-LABS’ scientist Chantel Prat selected for inaugural Research Impact Advocates cohort

Chantel Prat

Dr. Chantel Prat is no stranger to sharing her research outside of academia. Her book, The Neuroscience of You, was published in 2022. Now Prat is furthering her commitment to public engagement as Research Impact Advocate.

Traditionally, academic researchers focus on communicating their findings to their peers, which, while critical to scientific discovery, can mean less opportunities to engage with public audiences. To realize the UW’s vision to enrich people’s lives, the UW Office of Research is piloting the Research Impact Advocates program. Dr. Prat was selected to be one of 20 participants in the inaugural cohort, which represents 13 colleges and schools, across all three UW campuses. The program provides training and support for UW researchers who want to engage more effectively with the public about their work and the evidence behind it. Each participant has committed to creating two new public‑engagement activities or products that they would not otherwise have had the time or training to develop.
