I-LABS Co-directors Speak at International Business Summit

October 2, 2015 - Drs. Patricia Kuhl and Andrew Meltzoff presented the latest developments on early childhood brain research during an event organized by ReadyNation. The Event, the 2015 Global Business Summit on Early Childhood Investments, held Oct. 1-2 in New York City, attracts more than 200 business people, policymakers and other experts. ReadyNation is a business organization that aims to educate policymakers and the public about ways to improve business competitiveness by helping children get a good start in life.

Patricia Kuhl Speaks at White House Summit on Early Education

December 10, 2014 - Dr. Patricia Kuhl was invited to participate in the 2014 White House Summit on Early Education. The event brought together philanthropic, business, education, advocacy, and political leaders to discuss expanded access to high-quality early childhood education. Kuhl was asked to "spark discussion" among attendees at the summit. She focused on the role of research and the important discoveries that are leading the nation's evidenced-based practices.

Patricia Kuhl Delivers Plenary at National Partner Summit

October 15, 2014 - I-LABS Co-Director Dr. Patricia Kuhl delivered the opening plenary at the Ounce of Prevention and Alliance for Early Success. She presented research on the developing brain and children’s early language acquisition. Following the plenary, attendees continued the conversation in a breakout session by discussing the applications of science for policy and practice.

I-LABS Co-Directors Meet with Swedish Crown Princess

September 23, 2014 - Drs. Andrew Meltzoff and Patricia Kuhl visited with the Crown Princess of Sweden, who has a baby girl. They talked about early learning and the brain.

The meeting took place at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. While in Stockholm, Kuhl gave a lecture, "Early Learning and the Developing Child's Brain," at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Stockholm. Meltzoff gave a lecture “Neural Mirroring Mechanisms, Imitation, and Social Cognition in Infants and Young Children" at the Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital at Karolinska Institute.

June 21, 2014 - Patricia Kuhl participated in a panel discussion with US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and Denver Mayor Michael Hancock, during the 90-minute plenary session ‘Building an Early Learning Nation’.

I-LABS Hosts Spanish Officials

May 5, 2014 - Several Spanish officials visited I-LABS to learn about the latest research findings and our ongoing outreach efforts to share these findings with people who can use them. The Minister of Education, Culture, and Sport and the Secretary of State of Education toured the lab, played with the exhibits that communicate science to parents and children, and left with chocolate brains as souvenirs.

I-LABS Connects with National Leaders in Washington DC

February 27, 2013 - Co-Directors Patricia Kuhl and Andrew Meltzoff, along with Outreach team Hannah Lidman and Sarah Roseberry Lytle, presented the latest research in a series of meetings to top government officials in Washington DC.

The events included: (1) Briefings and presentations to the America's Promise Grad Nation Summit, US Department of Education, USAID, US Department of Health and Human Services, the White House Office of Science Technology Policy; (2) Meetings with Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Chaka Fattah; and (3) A congressional briefing on "New Developments in Early Brain Research New Evaluation Results for Early Childhood Services and Implications for Federal Policy" co-sponsored by the Bezos Family Foundation, ReadyNation, America's Promise, Pew Center on the States, Zero to Three, First Focus and the First Five Years Fund.

I-LABS Briefs Seattle City Council on the Importance of Early Learning

June 17, 2013 - Dr. Sarah Roseberry Lytle, Director of Outreach & Education at I-LABS, was invited to brief the Seattle City Council on the importance of early learning. In her presentation, she highlighted the I-LABS research suggesting that quality early experiences are the building blocks for later success. This event, “Early Childhood Development and Learning: Best Practices from Across the Nation” also included a presentation by Dr. Steve Barnett of Rutgers University and was sponsored by Councilmember Tim Burgess.
